Question 1

How much does a chimney sweep cost in the La Jolla area?

Accepted Answer

A standard chimney cleaning in La Jolla and the surrounding cities typically falls between $150 and $300 depending on the size of the flue, the amount of buildup, and whether additional services like a camera inspection are needed. Repairs like cap replacement or liner work are quoted separately after we can see the condition of the chimney. Call (833) 952-1418 and we'll give you a written estimate before any work begins.

Question 2

How often should I have my chimney swept?

Accepted Answer

The National Fire Protection Association recommends an annual inspection, and a cleaning whenever creosote reaches about an eighth of an inch of buildup. If you burn more than a cord of wood per season, sweep more often. Gas fireplaces don't produce creosote but still need periodic inspection for blockages and component wear.

Question 3

What happens if I skip a chimney cleaning?

Accepted Answer

Creosote is combustible. The more it accumulates, the higher the chance of a chimney fire, which can crack flue tiles and spread heat into the home's structure. Blocked flues also push carbon monoxide back into the living space. These are real risks, and the solution is an hour of maintenance once a year.

Question 4

Do I really need a new liner, or is the company just trying to sell me one?

Accepted Answer

If you're told you need a liner, you should see proof. We use a camera to inspect the flue and we'll show you the footage on site. Cracked tiles, gaps between sections, or severe corrosion are the three conditions that typically require a repair. If you don't see damage, you don't need a liner. If you do see damage, options like DuraFlex or HeatShield can often fix the problem without a full teardown.
